Hi my name is Nicole Glasgow, I’m 20 years old, and an honors student currently attending a local community college. Although not my dream school, it was the only place affordable enough to attend. I’m at the point where I need plans to make a transfer into a 4 year university but being financially unstable does not allow me to do so. Although I have a roof over my head; I pay for my expenses like gas, food, cell phone, etc. I'm going to school and after finishing out my Associates degree after this, my aim is to attend Illinois State University to study Law and Criminal Justice. I have volunteered working in the Bloomingdale Police Department Youth Peer Jury for 9 years now, worked with my mom at an accounting firm in Accounts Payable for 4 years, and currently wait tables at The Olive Garden, where I have been over 2 years now, for 25-35 hours a week trying to make ends meet. Unfortunately, with  gas, cell phone, and food bills, and trying to save for school, my ability to save has dwindled greatly. Originally, the plan was that my parents had an education savings set aside for me until a risky investiment was made putting my education fund into jepordy, which has become a complete disaster. Our home, once paid off, now been mortagaged 3 times, in addition to other loans. My dad moved out unexpectedly and currently earns no income. My mom supports him for the most part, paying his bills and whatever other expenses, while trying to pay the house and utility bills off here here as well. She has done as much as she can for my brother in helping him buy a place and provide for me. She works a full time job but there is little savings. Neither are in a position to cosign for student loans because of their financial debt situation and the government/F.A.F.S.A. has denied me financial aid- even after explaining the situation.

I have applied for many  scholarships, local and federal, I've tried for Stafford loans, subsidized and un-subsidized loans, and student loans all on my own and come out shorthanded, denied time and again. So with my small amount of savings, I am praying for your help. Even if you can donate a few cents, it will add up, and my education is so important to me. I am trying to go to any length possible to finish school. I’ve always been an honors student through middle school, high school,  and am presently at my college, I do not want to lose this status. I just need to find the resources to allow me to follow though my passion and desire- and the only way to make that happen is to explain my life and story with you. You can ask whatever you would like, I feel like this is my only means or way of potentially getting myself to a 4 year college because I don’t have the means or help of the government, FAFSA, or my family. I have been trying for this but its become quite discouraging. I want this education- I want a future. I know the economy is rough, so what I ask for is whatever loose change you have, a few dollars, whatever you can afford. The economy is rough and I realize how tight things are so I take it from this perspective: if you have loose change, even just 5 cents to spare, that’s 5 cents I didn’t have before. Thanks for your time and patience!!!

Nicole
